Equipment and Adaptations
As a resident of Knowsley you have the right to be considered
for disabled adaptations under the following legislation:
- Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970
- Disabled Persons Consultation and Representation Act 1970
- The Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996
( Part 1 )
You may need adaptations to your home to make it easier to manage
and make your home more suitable for your needs. An adaptation can
be a piece of specialist equipment, an extra fitting, or a minor
alteration to your home. Adaptations include grab rails, walk in
showers, lever taps etc.
To apply for an adaptation you can either visit any KHT office ,
phone us on 0151 290 7000 or email us at enquiries@k-h-t.org.
Requests can also come via Knowsley Council’s Independent
Living & Design Team (Occupational Therapy department) or
through a specialist organisation such as the Royal National
Institute for the Blind (RNIB) or Age Concern.

Service Standards
Category 1 – critical adaptation. Timescale –
80 working days.
This is any adaptation that is needed urgently because you would
not cope in your home without it.
Category 2 – non-critical adaptation. Timescale
– 230 working days.
This is an adaptation that enables you to cope more easily in your
home.
Category 3 – minor adaptation. Timescale – 28
working days.
This is a relatively simple adaptation that will help you do normal
everyday tasks in your home.
Moving to another property
It may not always be possible to carry out a major adaptation in
your home. If this is the case we may ask you to consider moving to
another property. In some circumstances that may be with another
Housing Association, however we would ensure that any property
offered is within the Borough of Knowsley.
