Halewood Area Board Allocation

Over £2,500 was recently awarded to a project designed to increase and maintain participation in sports and recreation, particularly for disadvantaged young people in Halewood. As well as encouraging healthier lifestyles, Active Communities will target over a hundred 8-16 year olds, all from the Halewood area, who will benefit from healthy, structured fun activities, with an emphasis placed on attaining awards and recognised qualifications.

The Halewood Falls Prevention group is a newly established group whose aim is to reduce the number of falls in the Halewood area. The group will raise awareness and give practical help on how falls can be prevented to KHT tenants in Halewood who are isolated and vulnerable in the community and who are particularly at risk of falling. Amongst the useful things provided will be; special slippers to reduce the risk of trips and slips, nightlights, which are inexpensive to run, to avoid trips when older people get up during the night and non slip mats

Flats in Hornbeam Road in Halewood have bin storage which was designed for old style bins and not the wheelie type. This is now redundant and takes up space in rear communal areas. Removal of the bin storage will allow the tenants to use this area as a ‘communal area’, with the future possibility of creating a community garden.

A scheme to provide pigeon netting to maisonettes at Penmann Crescent and Marsden Road in the Leathers Lane neighbourhood was recently given £1500. Such netting has been used successfully elsewhere and will prevent the pigeons nesting on the balconies birds and causing a nuisance and a health hazard.
