Kirkby Area Board Allocation

Centre 63 provides support for young people aged between 16 and 25, many of whom are in full time education and as such do not qualify for full Community Care grant. KHT has agreed to support young people who move into our properties by providing financial help to decorate their property. Up to 40 young people are expected to benefit from this scheme, which will allow young people to continue their education while enjoying comfortable surroundings at home. KHT would also benefit as its properties will be decorated and the young people are more likely not only to care for but also take pride in their accommodation. Funding has already been granted to help improve the play court facilities at Centre 63, which are a much used local resource. This will help Centre 63 to provide opportunities to promote five a side football, netball, basketball and tennis for local young people.

Springfield Special School is situated in the Southdene area of Kirkby and is Knowsley’s major resource for pupils with physical disabilities between the ages of 2 and 19. The school provides a key resource for Knowsley’s disabled community and offers a wide range of standard and specialised resources. Among the other facilities to do this, the school has a ‘sensory garden’ on site; this assists children to learn through touch, smell and sight and maintaining it requires substantial resources. KHT has agreed to provide financial support which will help with its up keep, improve security and extend its viability for the community to include plant sales etc.

An application has been made by Copthorne Adventure Playground for funding to provide four computers to be used in their homework club. This will help improve I.T. skills as well as education and employment prospects. The homework club provides young people with an alternative to becoming involved in anti-social behaviour.
