Adaptations
You may need adaptations to your home to make it easier to
manage and more suitable for your needs. An adaptation can be a
piece of specialist equipment, an extra fitting, or a minor
alteration to your home. Adaptations include grab rails, walk in
showers, lever taps etc.
To apply for an adaptation visit any KHT office, phone us on 0151
290 7000 or email us at enquiries@k-h-t.org. Requests can also come
via a Knowsley Council Occupational Therapist or through a
specialist organisation such as the Royal National Institute of the
Blind (RNIB) or Age Concern.

Minor Adaptations
If you have difficulty in performing tasks essential for daily
living or your mobility within the home is restricted, it may be
possible to alleviate some of these problems by fitting a minor
adaptation such as lever taps or handrails. These works will be
assessed immediately and completed within 28 days of
application.
Major Adaptation
Where a major adaptation is required a Knowsley Council
Occupational Therapist will need to carry out an assessment at your
home. Your application will be then be categorised as either
critical or non critical.
• Critical Requests
People in extensive need and unable to live independently in their
own home. (i.e. stair lifts, adaptations or access)
Completion within -120 Calendar Days
• Priority 2 – Non-Critical
Requests
People who develop difficulties that will
compromise their safety at home and have a detrimental affect to
their health. (i.e. level access shower or ramps)
Completion within – 322 Calendar days
Moving to another property
It may not always be possible to carry out a major adaptation in
your home. If this is the case we may ask you to consider moving to
another property. In some circumstances this may be with another
Housing Association; however we will ensure that any property
offered is within the Borough of Knowsley.
