Gas Safety Inspection and Service

• By law KHT must carry out an annual inspection of all gas appliances in your home. This includes any you may have installed yourself.

• Under your Tenancy Agreement, you must provide us with access to carry out the inspection.

• The inspection takes 45 minutes and is not intrusive and is free of charge. As part of the inspection we will install, test or replace smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

• We will give you advance notice of when we want to visit you. If this is inconvenient, simply contact us to make an alternative appointment at your convenience.

• If you fail to respond, we will send two further reminders again offering you the chance to make convenient appointments.

• If you do not respond after all our attempts to contact you, we will begin legal proceedings against you, which could include:

 Asking the court for an injunction to force you to give access to us. Failure to comply with this can lead to a prison sentence.

 Notice Seeking Possession for breach of tenancy and possible eviction

 In an emergency, we may have to force entry and re-charge you with our costs.

• We hope we never need to take any legal action against you but we will not hesitate to do so as we try to protect you and your neighbours from the effects of gas poisoning and explosion

Points to remember

If you smell gas or fumes you should always:

• Turn the gas off at the meter.
• Open all doors and windows.
• Don’t use electrical switches.
• Don’t try to fix the problem yourself.
• Call Transco Gas Emergency Services on 0800 111 999.
