Community Awards
KHT hosted it's first Presentation night as part of the
celebration for KHT's 5th birthday.
The aim of the awards was to celebrate the huge contribution that
employees, Board and Area Board Members, tenants and Knowsley
residents had made to KHT's success so far
The first award of the evening was the Outstanding
Contribution to Customer Service. In all, over 60
employees were nominated by their colleagues. This was reduced to a
shortlist of five:
- Tony Bamford
- Phil Cook
- Diane Klestil
- Helen Morley
- Debbie Waring
The winner after a very close vote was: Phil Cook.
Some of the comments made about him were:
• ‘Phil’s helpful nature and patience with
customers means he is well liked and respected by customers and
colleagues alike’
• ‘He’s really reliable and consistently goes the
extra mile during his working day’
• ‘He is good at his job and good with
people’
• ‘He never complains and is always one of the first to
volunteer to help’
Well done to all who were nominated.
The next category was for the Young Citizen of the
Year. The nominees were chosen by various schools in
Knowsley and the young adults all contribute heavily with volunteer
work and various out of school activities. The three nominees
were:
- Nathan Horan
- Jennifer Ginley
- David Lane
The winner was Nathan Horan and his award was
received by his very proud parents. Nathan:
• is hard working, reliable and is committed to representing
children and young people throughout Knowsley.
• He is a Member of Youth Parliament for Knowsley
• We was recently elected Vice Chair of Knowsley Children and
Young People’s Forum
• And he combines representing young people with enjoying
basketball and drama
The next category was for Outstanding contribution to
the community by a Knowsley resident. Again this was a
very close category and many KHT tenants were nominated for their
work they do in their community. The three nominees were:
- Jean Jones
- Cathy Phillips
- Ron Sinclair
The winner was Jean Jones who is an active member
of the TREES resident group:
• She cooks meals for the Pensioners Club and also runs
pensioner’s bingo and helps out with a dance group each
Wednesday evening
• Jean always has a smile
• Whenever the local residents group has a planting day, a
clean up or other activities, she is always one of the first to
help.
• She is a little star, who is really valued and appreciated
by all of the local residents
Next up was the award for Outstanding Contribution to
the community by a group or organisation. These were
nominated as they do that little bit extra to add value to their
community and the residents nominated the following:
- Kirkby Fire Station
- Northwood Parents and Toddlers Group
- Tower Hill Junior Angling Group
Again the voting was tight but the winner was Northwood
Parents and Toddlers Group:
• They are a handful of women volunteers who provide a range
of activities for people of all ages in the community, including a
vital childcare service for local parents
• They also organise and run a local allotment
• They also recently organised a party for local pensioners to
celebrate Liverpool’s 800th birthday and dressed up in
costumes which helped to recreate some magical memories for those
who attended
The penultimate award went to the Residents Assoctaion
of the Year. There have been many fantastic and
enthusiastic associations who have been very active throughout the
year but the shortlist consisted of:
- Greenwood Pensioners Club
- Heys Residents Association
- Tree Community Association
The winner was Trees Community Association. Some
of the reasons they won are:
• This group has made a fantastic difference to their area for
people of all ages
• They hold regular community clean up and fun days that bring
everyone in the community together
• They have cleared overgrown land and planted rose beds that
have brightened up the area
• They have also started a dance group called W.I.K.E.D for
13-19 yr olds to meet every Wednesday evening and is attended by
over 60 youngsters each week
Last but not least was a special award given to KHT's
Inside Housing Football Champions. They have won this
national competition for the 3rd time in 4 years and their success
has helped to raise KHT’s profile in the housing sector and
shown that the Trust is achieving success on and off the field.
Accepting the award on behalf of the team was Steve Dunning and
Carl Woods.
Well done to all who were nominated and it is hoped that
this could become a regular feature in the KHT
Calendar.
