RNIB
The RNIB (Royal National Institute for the Blind) now provide a service called Computer Volunteers.
They are volunteers who will come out and help the person with their computer and IT queries. The service is not for training purposes but they can help with virus' and setting up computers. The volunteers themselves can vary from IT professionals to retired people who have some experience and/or qualifications in that field.
The criteria to be able to use this, is the person needs to be registered blind or partially blind. They will simply need to phone them and give out their name, and post code. The timescale to coming out once a problem has been highlighted can be from 1 day to 1 week.
The RNIB also run another service called the 'Home Technology Service'. This is to help people with technology (not a repair service) for example programming their TV, phones and similar problems.
Both numbers can be accessed on: 0845 604 2341.
