Van thieves foiled

A KHT van was stolen last Friday, when one of the team was approached and the keys taken from him whilst delivering materials in Kirkby. Fortunately, the vehicle was fitted with the new fleet management hardware that enabled staff to alert the police to its whereabouts.

Although the thieves tampered with the equipment immediately, it has an onboard backup system, designed for just such an eventuality. This meant that KHT staff were able to recover the vehicle within two hours. Our colleague who was with the vehicle when the incident occurred was shaken but thankfully unharmed and the vehicle had only sustained minor damage.

The cost to both the member of staff and the company could have been much higher if the equipment had not been in place. The Senior Police officer investigating the issue commented “In the modern world it's imperative that companies protect their staff and property with technology of this kind. This case has shown how it can help us to work together to prevent and reduce crime."
