Bolier Thefts in Whiston area - Police Warning
A letter to residents in Whiston area from the Police
Dear Resident
Boiler thefts in Knowsley
I am writing to inform you that there have recently been burglaries
in your neighbourhood. In the majority of these burglaries central
heating boilers have been stolen.
Police believe that offenders have been gaining access to
properties through doors or windows left insecure however
information has been received that some residents have been offered
cash to leave their properties insecure to enable the boilers to be
stolen.
If any resident is found to have purposefully left their property
insecure to enable the boiler to be taken, they will be prosecuted
and their tenancy with Knowsley Housing Trust (KHT) will be put at
risk.
In order to try and identify the individuals responsible for
committing these burglaries Merseyside Police will be working with
KHT to look at improving security and traceability on the boilers
in their properties. This will have no impact on the resident but
will enable Merseyside Police to trace stolen boilers. Anyone found
to be in possession of a stolen boiler or found to have a stolen
boiler in their property will be prosecuted.
Police advice that you take the time to read the following crime
prevention advice to prevent you from becoming a victim of this
crime:
• Secure all doors - if your front and back doors are not
secure, neither is your home. Try to ensure that your main entrance
doors are fitted with secure, substantial locks.
• Windows - secure all windows before leaving the house and
fit window locks.
• Lighting - if you don't already have security lighting in
place consider having it installed.
• Burglar alarms - remember to put the burglar alarm on at all
times when leaving the house, and when you go to bed at
night.
• Remember to security mark property.
• Keys - never leave keys on show and do not leave them
anywhere near the front door.
If you have any information about burglary in this area please
contact Police on 0151 709 6010 or call Crimestoppers anonymously
on 0800 555 111.
Regards
MARK SCRAGGS
