FREE health checks for men and women aged between 40 and 74 are
available in a range of community locations across Knowsley. These
checks are to identify people at high risk of developing heart
disease and/or stroke over the next 10 years.
WHAT IS A COMMUNITY HEALTH CHECK?
It’s a quick and simple check lasting about 30 minutes and
tests for:
- Height & weight
- Cholesterol and Blood sugar (taken via a finger test)
- Lifestyle questions
- Health Promotion
At the end of each check, the nurse will give an appraisal and some
simple lifestyle advice (if required).
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
The community health checks are only available to individuals
who:
• are between the ages of 40 and 74
• are a Knowsley resident and/or are registered with a
Knowsley GP
• have not suffered from or is receiving care for heart
disease such as, a heart attack, stroke and angina
• are not already receiving medication for high cholesterol
such as cholesterol lowering medication known as statins
• do not have diabetes, or is currently receiving care and
investigations for diabetes
• have not already received a community health check regarding
their risk of developing heart disease
