Mosscroft Community Kitchen
Bramhall Construction and Knowsley Housing Trust have officially
unveiled a state-of-the-art new kitchen at a community centre in
Knowsley, to give something back to the community they have served
for the past five years.
The newly-refurbished kitchen was officially opened at the Moss
Croft Community Centre in Long View Drive in Huyton, providing
Knowsley Housing Trust’s tenants with a central meeting point
for events.
Bramall Construction spent three weeks refurbishing the kitchen
with lights, vinyl flooring and electricity and plumbing facilities
provided entirely free of charge. They used kitchen units supplied
by Knowsley Housing Trust.
The generous gesture reflects the close working relationship
Bramall Construction has enjoyed with Knowsley Housing Trust over
the years - fitting an average of 30 kitchens and bathrooms to
tenants’ homes every week. Bramall decided to finance the
£12,000 work to give something back to the community before
their contract ends in May.
The kitchen was formerly opened by the Mayor of Knowsley,
Councillor Eddie Baker. Members of the public were also invited to
join in the celebration and share in a simple buffet.
Karl Coleman, the Contracts Manager for Bramalls Construction,
said: “So many people use the Centre that it’s
wonderful Bramall Construction has been able to help in this
way.
“The new kitchen is going to make a real difference as it
will be used by parents bringing their children to nursery, but it
will also be used to cook pensioners’ meals.
“We’ve worked with Knowsley Housing Trust for so long
now that we’ve got to know some of the tenants really well
and it’s wonderful seeing how satisfied they are with the
completed work.
“It’s also a gesture to the housing trust for all the
work they’ve been able to put our way – we just wanted
to say thank you and put something back.”
The Moss Croft Community Centre is open all year round and is
regularly used by Knowsley Housing Trust tenants as a nursery, for
indoor bowls and a bingo hall.
Brian Beddows, the Senior Site Manager for Bramall Construction,
came up with the idea to refurbish the community centre alongside
his colleague Peter McMillan, Bramalls Project Manager.
“This community centre has been used by different generations
for over 30 years and it’s wonderful seeing our work bring so
much satisfaction to people’s faces,” Brian said.
“Everyone really enjoyed themselves and it was wonderful to
have the Mayor in attendance to join in the celebrations on the
day.”
