How Can You Help??
Motability are a leading car scheme for disabled people. They
believe that everyone has the right to personal freedom and
independence and do everything they can to help disabled people
realise their full potential by providing them with personal
mobility.
Each year they raise money for their Charitable Grants Fund which
depends on voluntary income. Last year they spent over £3
million in Charitable Grants helping over 4,000 disabled people
become mobile. Support from Motability can mean the world of
difference to their beneficiaries; people who have been completely
housebound have now received a new lease of life after receiving a
Charitable Grant from Motability.
"Every year Motability helps people like Gary, 50, from
Ashton-Under-Lyne, who has multiple sclerosis a chronic disease of
the nervous system. He is a published author having written
Tap-Dancing’s Out Then? – a frank account of his life
with MS and is a keen Manchester City Football Club supporter. Gary
has a specially adapted Ford Focus with hand controls as he is a
full time wheelchair user. He loves nothing better than to drive
his family on days out and his Motability car enables him to do
this. He says, “Thanks to Motability I am able to go to
football, visit friends and make new ones. Without my car I would
be almost housebound and unable to do the things I love. It has
given me back my independence”."
By taking part in our events you will be helping people like Gary
and his family. All the money raised from this year’s
fundraising events will allow us to help those people who would not
be able to afford a suitable vehicle or adaptation to become
mobile.
