Information on the National Tenants Voice (NTV)
What is it?
The National Tenants Voice is an independent organisation for
tenants of housing associations, housing co-ops and local
authorities in England.
It will have four key roles:
Advocacy – to enable and facilitate tenants
to speak up effectively
Research – to ensure that the views and
experiences of tenants, particularly those who are not in
tenants’ organisations, are taken into account
Support for national and regional tenants’
organisations – to strengthen tenants’
organisations at a regional level
Communication – to develop mechanisms to
communicate information to tenants as well as receive the views of
tenants
Recruitment
24 tenants have already been recruited from existing tenant
organisations and a further 26 are to be recruited nationally. Any

Recruitment will be carried out via a number of stages:
• A phone interview carried out by a member of Hays
Recruitment
• A number of focus group carried out throughout England which
will last 2-3 hours. This stage will be completed by 20/11/09 and
the nearest focus group to Knowsley will be held in
Manchester
• Individual interviews with Hays and NTV will be carried out
by 20/12/09
What will membership of the NTV
involve?
The NTV will commence in January 2010 and members will be expected
to attend four meetings a year which will be held in different
locations. Members will not be paid but will receive out of pocket
expenses including travel costs. You will be expected to commit for
2 years.
