KHT’s Sara Hails Pioneering Scheme
KHT Plumber Sara Kilgannon made a huge impact recently when she
spoke at a national conference at the Walkers Stadium in
Leicester.
Sara, along with Falklands War veteran Simon Weston and celebrity
politician Lembit Opik were helping spearhead the national launch
for the pioneering scheme that has revolutionised the way thousands
of homes are looked after.
She was singing the praises of Fusion21 which used the conference
to roll out their winning formula across the country.
When she completes her NVQ training, Sara, employed by KHT, wants
to earn her Corgi accreditation to enable her to tackle everything
from basic plumbing to installing complete central heating
systems.
Sara said: “The Fusion21 Skills Programme has changed my
life. When I become a qualified plumber I will be looking at a
lifelong job with real prospects. It has given me a good future to
look forward too.
“I have been mentored by Maggi Howard the Director of
Regeneration at Knowsley Housing Trust and that really helped give
me the confidence to work towards my NVQ.
“A few years ago I would never have imagined working as a
plumber in the construction industry, but it is so
rewarding.”
Maggi Howard said: “We are delighted people like Sara are
able to learn new skills and have the chance of fulfilling careers.
Fusion21 was originally launched on Merseyside in response to a
skills shortage and has so far accepted over 630 men and women into
training, creating over 450 jobs. It is great that Sara will be
able to talk to hundreds of representatives from the construction
industry to talk about the how her own life has been
transformed.”
Award-winning Fusion21 was established six years ago in Merseyside
when a group of housing associations and registered social
landlords joined forces to create an alliance with the buyer-power
to negotiate better prices from local and national contractors,
while insisting on a high level of maintenance and improvement
work.
