First residents move into new £6.3m development at Tiverton
The first residents have moved into a new £6.3m housing development in Knowsley.
Claire Scott and her 13-month-old son Adam have received the keys to their new home in Tiverton Close, Huyton.
The development, one of KHT’s biggest ever housing investments, now offers 49 new homes, where previously there were run down flats. £2.3m of the funding for the scheme was received from theHomes and Communities Agency’s National Affordable Homes Programme (NAHP).
Claire, 25, had previously been renting a two bedroom flat in the private sector, but thanks to KHT has now moved to a more spacious, modern home for her and her son.
She said: “I am absolutely delighted with our new home. There will be much more space for Adam to run around as he grows up.”
The project, including a mix of flats and houses, has been supported by the Homes and Communities Agency, Knowsley MBC and Bramall Construction.
Flats that previously stood on the site were demolished to make way for the new development, as they had attracted anti-social behaviour and were no longer suitable to meet the housing needs of the area.
Stephen Heverin, KHT Operational Director of Investment, said: “This development shows KHT’s continued commitment to regeneration in Knowsley. It has been one of KHT’s biggest developments to date and provides much-needed new homes for families in the area.
“We are very proud to be able to hand over the keys to our residents and we look forward to welcoming more in the coming weeks and months to make Tiverton Close their home.”
During its construction school children buried a time capsule beneath the development that will be unearthed in 50 years time to give residents of the future a snapshot of life in Knowsley today.
Pupils from Mosscroft Primary School in Huyton put together a collection of items for the time capsule, including copies of the Liverpool Echo and Knowsley Challenge, Liverpool FC and Everton FC programmes, photos of the development being built, school newsletters, KHT’s Living in Knowsley magazine and much more.
