Bring a tin to work day

Housing staff have donated food tins to help families struggling to make ends meet keep their cupboards stocked.
Knowsley Housing trust (KHT), part of The First Ark Group, held a Bring A Tin To Work Day to support Knowsley Foodbank, a charity that provides emergency food parcels to people on low incomes or who are facing hard times.
Staff collected over 100 tins and packets of food which will be donated to the foodbank to help its vital work.
The foodbank, run by Jubilee Church, has helped to feed hundreds of people since it opened in September last year and has centres in Kirkby and Huyton.
Sheila Tolley, Executive Director of Customers and Communities at KHT, said: “It is tragic that so many people need to turn to the foodbank to feed themselves and their families, but the demand shows just how many people are struggling.
“We want to help the charity however we can to make sure this support is in place for our tenants, and all Knowsley residents, when they find themselves facing hard times.”
Knowsley Housing Trust helped to set up the foodbank and KHT directors have volunteered to sort donated food.
Care professionals identify those in need and issue vouchers that can be exchanged for food parcels.
Vouchers can be taken to Centre 63 in Kirkby on a Tuesday, St Mark's in Kirkby on a Thursday or the Apostolic Church in Huyton on a Monday, from 11am to 2pm, and exchanged for three days of free food.
