Domestic abuse – we’re pledging to Make a Stand

Millions of people are affected by domestic abuse every year and each week two women are killed by their partner or ex-partner.

KHT and other Housing Associations across the country are making a stand to support tenants who are experiencing domestic abuse. We are pledging to make significant changes to the way we operate to make a difference to our tenants.

Make a Stand pledge

make a stand against domestic abuseLaunched by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA) and Women’s Aid, the Make a Stand pledge involves making four specific commitments to provide support for people experiencing domestic abuse:

  1. Put in place and embed a policy to support residents who are affected by domestic abuse
  2. Make information about national and local domestic support services available on your website and in other appropriate places so they are easily accessible for residents and staff
  3. Put in place a HR policy, or amend an existing policy, to support members of staff who may be experiencing domestic abuse
  4. Appoint a champion at a senior level in your organisation to own the activity you are doing to support people experiencing domestic abuse

What this means for our tenants affected by domestic abuse

Now that we have signed the pledge, we have until September 2019 to put them in place. Our dedicated Safer Communities Team are already working incredibly hard to provide tenants with support and education to help them make positive changes. By taking the Pledge we will expand this work to help further reduce the risk to our tenants and their families.

The National Domestic Violence Helpline is a free, confidential helpline run by Women’s Aid and Refuge for anyone experiencing domestic abuse and it is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week:
